Hours & Seasons

Year-round, dogs allowed all year on leash. Officially pet-friendly since 2022. First designated dog beach in the Greater Porto area.

Beach Rules

  • Dogs must be kept on a leash at all times — no off-leash zone.
  • Dogs must have a microchip and be legally registered; carry your DIAC or pet passport.
  • Owners must clean up after their dogs — bring your own bags.
  • Potentially dangerous breeds must wear a muzzle and be on a leash no longer than 1 metre.
  • Dogs must carry valid identification documentation at all times.

Local Tips

  • 🐾The dog agility obstacles make this beach unique — let your dog try them out for some extra fun.
  • 🐾Bring your own water and waste bags as the beach has no dedicated pet infrastructure beyond the obstacles.
  • 🐾The Ribeira do Juncal river mouth creates interesting terrain for dogs who enjoy both sand and shallow water.
  • 🐾Easily accessible from Porto — about 20 minutes south via the A1 motorway.
  • 🐾The wooden walkways across the dunes are the main access route to the beach.
